Motherwell Masters Swim Club Motherwell Masters Swim Club started up around 1982. They trained in Motherwell's old baths which was close to where the Heritage Centre is today. The coach was Gordon Coleman bottom row second from left. We now train at the Matt Busby Sports Complex, 50 Main Street, Bellshill ML43DP tel. no. 01698747466. Training times are as follows. Tuesdays 21.00 pm to 22.00 pm Thursdays 19.30 to 21.00 pm. So if you are an ex swimmer or even if you can swim a couple of lengths without stopping and would like to embark on a new fitter life style come along and join in. Masters Swimming
Motherwell Masters Swimming Club participated in the recent (2011) Scottish Short Course Masters Championships, held at Tollcross, Glasgow There were many successful swims, both in individual and relay events with the acquisition of 15 gold, 24 silver and 10 bronze medals. Successful swimmers were: Women Janet Stobie : (80-84yrs) won 8 silver medals in 50m,100m and 200m backcrawl, 50m,100m and 200m breaststroke, 50m,frontcrawl and 100m individual medley. Janet was also presented with a “lifetime achievement award” for services to swimming. Marina McFall : (75 -79 yrs) was overall winner in her age group, winning 3 gold medals in 100m frontcrawl, 50m and 100m backcrawl and 2 silver medals in 50m breaststroke and 50m frontcrawl Alison Freeland: (60-64yrs) also won overall age group with 5 gold medals in 50m, 100m, 200m breaststroke,50m backcrawl and 50m frontcrawl and 3 silver medals in 100m frontcrawl,100m individual medley and 400m frontcrawl Grizel Robertson: (60-64 yrs) won 1 gold medal in 100m backcrawl and 1 silver medal in 50m backcrawl Jane Sinclair: (55-59yrs) won 3 silver medals in 50m backcrawl, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke Lesley Nevin: (45-49yrs) won 1 bronze medal in 400 individual medley Men William Groves: (70-74yrs) won 2gold medals in 100m and 200m back crawl and 1 silver medal in 50m,backcrawl Tom McQuade: (65-69yrs) won 2 bronze medals in 50m and 100m breaststroke Robert O’Hanlon:(60-64yrs) won 2 silver medals in 100m and 200m butterfly and 1 bronze medal in 200m frontcrawl David Freeland: (60 -64yrs) won 1 gold medal in 100m breaststroke, 1 silver in 50m breaststroke and 2 bronze medals in 50m and 100m front crawl Brian Archibald: (50-54yrs) won 1 silver medal in 50m front crawl Greg Starling: (30-34yrs) won 1silver in 100m butterfly and 2 bronze medals in 50m butterfly and 100m individual medley John Fulton: (45-49yrs) produced a personal best time in 50m front crawl The Club also secured 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in the relay events with the assistance of Alison Wallace, Aileen Borthwick, Fiona Christie, Gordon Smith, Paul Donnelly, Alan Hutcheson and William Hayhoe.
